Philip Okedi, a former teacher who is serving 30 years in jail for defiling one of his pupils has cautioned teachers against falling into temptations saying it  is costly.

According to him, he has learnt the lesson the hard way, as he lost his job, his family split up and he is unable to take care of his fatherly responsibilities along with his second wife.

“My home is now in poverty. My wife is married. Taabu imeingia kwa boma kwa sababu ya enjoyment ya seconds,” Okedi said.

His troubles started in around 2012-2014 when he was approached by parents to coach their daughter  Mathematics, as the teacher was good in the subject. At the time, he was serving as a deputy headteacher in Trans Nzioa region.

According to him , the girl got used to him and one day, he approached him saying that her mother was not around. Okedi says it was hard for him not to give into the girl’s demand because it men’s nature when a woman wants them.

“The child got used to be, she was around 13-14 but the parents claimed she was 8 years old during the court proceedings. One day while teaching her she said her mother wasn’t around.

“The child insisted and I saw like she wanted us to get intimate. I found myself with her and that is why am here and am regretting. As a teacher there are temptations. When you are a man and a woman or girl wants you it is not easy to reject. Like in my case she said my mother is not around and my body responded to her demands and I found myself in trouble. Majaribu yanakuja, sikuwa na mpango ya kulala na huyo mtoto, nilikuwa nafika kwa boma hivi anasema mama hayuko,” he said.

He landed in trouble when the girl went and told her fellow students that she had gotten intimate with him.

Okedi’s jail term ends in 2035 but he hopes to appeal for his release when the opportunity to decongest prisons comes.
