Eve Mungai moved in with Trevor after September 2020 and they began creating content in November. By December the same year, she had already began being a household name.
Reflecting on the moment, Eve says that her relationship with Trevor was not based on love but situation, as she didn’t want to go back home and be idle and unproductive.
“I went to do Journalism and Mass Communication at NIBS in September 2019 but unfortunately I didn’t finish. In March 2020 Covid happened. We went back home . In September we went back to school to do an exam because we were studying online. My dad was so clear he wasn’t well financially so I had to stay home again until January is when he would have gotten fees,” she told Commentator.
The feeling of being unproductive and idle saw her return to Nairobi lying to her mother that she had gotten a job but that is how she landed in a come we stay marriage with Trevor.
“The deal was to visit the boy but now I ended up in a come we stay marriage. In November 2020 I started Content Creation and in December people had already started knowing me. I have God’s favor,” she said.
“There is something that I have come to realize now and maybe people will take it wrongly but I have come to realize that so many young people we end up in marriages or relationships because of situations. For me, I ended up in a come we stay marriage because I didn’t want to want to stay in my parents home and I didn’t have anywhere else to go. Mind you, I only met this person towards the end of 2019 , we haven’t interacted that much there is no time to know each other and then when I go to stay with this person, I become popular so now we have to focus on our career.
“Personally, it is something that I have come to realize recently, I don’t even think there was love. I feel like it is a situation that brought us together and now work forced us to stick together. I feel like the situations we went through especially me, I didn’t have anywhere else to go I ran to him, got known, I felt like this person has taught me….Honestly no offence to anyone, just my own feeling after am grown, looking back it was not love it was situation and I was young. We were more of destiny connector not lovers,” she said.
What Really Caused their break up?
Eve said that she was ready had already checked out of the relationship in November 2022, and knew that they were not destined to last.
She was prepared for it and that is why she didn’t feel it was a big deal when the news was publicized. Although the breakup was announced early this year, the duo had already lasted a year apart and were just working together.
She said they broke up because of so many piled up issues. They would quarrel over little issues making the the environment no longer possible for them to work together.
“Our relationship was not started based on love but situation. We focused so much on work You have to water a relationship for it to work. We became more of business partners than lovers. We forgot about love. We would have made great business partners but not lovers,” she said.
How they would divide their revenue
“I was the brand and anything that came, if you are working with brands, they pay you as the creative,” she said.
This means that Eve was the one getting paid, therefore she would decide how she will share with her partner.
Eve and Trevor’s first car Toyota Crown
Eve admits that their first car belonged to Trevor but she is grateful that it was written off it before they split.
“Am not attached to cars. It belonged to him but were using it as a family but thank God by the time of break up it was written off. Mungu alisema unataka kuenda na kila kitu wacha tukufunze adabu,” she said.
The February 2024 Firing
Trevor announced that he was no longer working with Eve in February 2024. This also got her by surprise as she was in Zanzibar for vacation.
“I knew it would happen because in a relationship you know who is the most emotional one. Being fired got me off guard. You fire me and yet am the breadwinner,” she laughed off.
About their shared Social media accounts(YouTube and Facebook)
After their split, Trevor is the one who took control of the YouTube account (with over700k subscribers and Facebook page) although Eve was the face of the brand.
He employed a new team and even brought in Eve Nyagah to take the place of Eve Mungai.
Eve however says that the accounts were not snatched from her as she just decided to let them go, because they had become too toxic for each other
“It is not like nilinyang’anywa, it reaches a point that all you want is this person to get out of your life, I just let go,” she said.
“The queen is irreplaceable,” she added, while commenting on being replaced.
