P-square

Popular Nigerian music duo Peter and Paul Okoye, formerly known as P-square,  are embroiled in a bitter beef again nearly three years after their reunion

Paul, who goes by the name stage name Rude Boy, earlier, hinted that all was not well between them. In a radio interview, he revealed that Peter( Stage name Mr P) got him arrested in December 2023 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC). He also revealed that Peter also had their elder brother Jude, who was also their manager, during their P-square times, arrested.

Peter has broken silence on the matter, addressing several claims that Paul had made recently in interviews. He called out his brother for always taking all the credit in the success of Psquare, and discrediting his contribution, while promising to share more details about the EFCC matter.

In an open letter, Peter told his twin brother Paul that he is not in any competition with him or any one else.

“However, seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly discredit my effort in the group that we both created and built together really speaks volumes. In your recent interviews, you claimed that you wrote and sang 99% of all P-square songs and discredited me by saying that our song with TI Ejeajo, which I wrote was a total failure. You went as far as  using YouTube views to discredit me once again,” Peter wrote.

Peter went on to list some of the songs which he wrote, including personally and Alingo, which he wondered if they were also failures.

“Every time I have spoken in interviews about P-square, I have always used “we” and “us” because I saw us as a team. But whenever you speak it’s always “I” and “me”, even when I am standing  right next beside you. It’s as if I never existed,” he said.

He told Paul that fans loved them because of their combined effort and not because of who danced or sang most.

“Rather than joining forces with me to reclaim our number one spot in the music industry, you chose to team up with Jude to claim the number one spot in P-square group, always looking for opportunities to marginalise and humiliate me,” he said, adding that  he also disrespected his family, wife and ideas.

“So my brother, let me ask you: Is Rudeboy or Mr P bigger and more successful than P-square today? Are we individually selling out arenas and stadiums like P-Square used to? Are we topping  world music charts with our songs as solo artistes?  Do we command crowds and entertain massive audiences like P-square?” he further posed.

P-square initially split in 2017, with the brothers embarking on solo music careers.
