As Nane Nane protests kick off in the country, a man suspected to have stolen a phone was forced to seek refuge in a police lorry in Nairobi’s CBD.

An angry crowd was captured baying for his blood, demanding him to come out of the vehicle so that they could teach him a lesson.

“Mwizi! Toaa. Uko na bahati sana wewe. Kuja nje mwizi tukupee dawa. Mmezoea,” the angry crowd shouted.

The crowd could however not take any action due to the heavy presence of police officers, who are in town to maintain law and order during protests.

Police have heavily been deployed in Nairobi and they have mounted roadblocks across major roads leading to town ahead of the Nane Nane protests, which are a continuation of the anti-government protests that rocked the country in June and July.

Earlier, police lobbed teargas to disperse protestors who had gathered around Tom Mboya and Kenneth Matiba streets. Some of the protestors were forced to seek refuge at a popular eatery  along Tom Mboya. Officers in plain clothes were also seen arresting some of the protestors, bundling them in a waiting police vehicle.

Speaking in Embu county on Wednesday President William Ruto urged the youths to desist from engaging in protests that would lead to loss of lives and destruction of property.
