The Kenya Union of Special Education Teachers, KUSNET is now calling for the implementation of the Finance ACT 2011.

The document, which is gathering dust in parliament, recognizes a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Union and the Teachers Service Commission.

General Secretary James Torome lamented that they have pushed for the implementation without success, a situation that has left teachers discouraged.

According to him, their members will not report back for third term and will not be available for talks once the industrial action kicks off.

“TSC has not honoured we signed in 2011. We have pushed for implementation in vain. Schools will not open if the CBA is not implemented,” he said.

Torome further urged parents to get prepared for the strike, saying state officers continued to exhibit opulence when teachers were suffering.

“The commission and the commissioners should be alert. We will not be available for talks once the strike kicks off. We have seen senior state officers exhibiting opulence when teachers are suffering. This is sad and unacceptable,” added Torome.

The KUSNET also listed the problems facing special schools in the country, demanding that the problems be urgently addressed.

Torome spoke during a conference in Narok town that brought together KUSNET officials from across the country, who announced their preparedness for the industrial action.
