Security has been beefed up following a banditry attack that left a middle aged man dead and tens of livestock stolen.
The deceased who was herding livestock was shot as he tried to confront the attackers whose number was not immediately established.
Residents led by Daniel Kendagor, say the attackers whom they believe hail from Pokot, headed to Kerio river while shooting in the air to scare away residents.
“Its very sad to lose life just like this. This man was looking ater his livestock and the bandits who come from Pokot, attacked him. The attackers then headed to Kerio river,” he said.
Kendagor, a member of the peace committee, decried the slow response by security personnel, saying the attack would have been thwarted had the officers responded on time.
“We informed the police immediately the attackers were spotted but they responded slowly. This attack would have been avoided. We ask the government to take decisive action to end insecurity in this region. We dont feel the many officers deployed to this area,” added Kendagor.
The residents have demanded that perpetrators be brought to book, adding that persistent attacks have disrupted life in the area.
Tension remains high, with learning activities being paralyzed in some schools despite the heavy police presence in the area.
Church leaders have however cautioned local communities against retaliation, instead urging them to maintain peace and allow security agencies to do their work.
