Kericho MCAs are now demanding the immediate resignation of Kericho Water and Sanitation Company(KEWASCO) Managing Director Erick Siele.

Led by Deputy Speaker Erick Bett, they accused Siele of incompetence, a vice they say has led to the retrogression of the company.

Addressing the press, Bett noted that KEWASCO staff have not been paid for several months, prompting them to stage demos for 3 weeks now.

” Siele has exhibited the highest level of incompetence which has made the company not to make progress. Employees have not also been paid for months which is very wrong. As a result, we want to tell him to resign immediately,” he said.

According to him, the company has not also remitted statutory deductions amounting to over sh 177 million to various schemes, which he says is unacceptable.

Bett threatened to table a censure motion against the MD should he fail to quit, stating that employees at all levels have stated that they want him out.

“Over sh 177 million have not been remitted to the various schemes. KEWASCO had a debt of only sh 2 million when Siele took over 4 years ago. But as we talk, this company has a debt of over sh 177 million including unpaid salaries. How can you remain in office when the company is on its knees? If you don’t want to resign honorably, we will remove you,” added Bett.

KEWASCO’s debt has grown to over sh 177 million from sh 2 million four years ago, with the company being unable to carry out its operations.

Kericho town and its environs have been hit by acute scarcity of water as striking employees, who have not received salaries for 18 months now, vowed not to resume work until the salaries are paid in full.
