The Kenya National Union(KNUT) of Teachers, Bomet Branch has welcomed efforts aimed at ending street protests by the Gen Z.

Branch Executive Secretary Desmond Langat says the protests led to tension and interruption of learning activities especially in schools located in urban centers.

Addressing the press, he said some schools were even closed while others suspended their usual activities for fear of insecurity.

“Learning was grossly affected in Many schools especially in towns and cities due to protests. This is wrong because at the end of the day, all learners are expected to do the same exams,” he observed.

Langat lauded President William Ruto for giving dialogue a chance, stating that no efforts should be spared in ensuring the country remains peaceful.

“As a union, we are happy with President William Ruto for giving dialogue a chance. Dialogue is one of the ways of seeking solutions to problems. Peace is paramount and no effort should be spared  in ensuring the county remains peaceful,” added Langat.

The Union warned against violence and destruction of property, adding that all learners should have equal academic opportunities.

On Friday July 5, President William Ruto engaged Gen Z on the X platform, a move that was aimed at cooling down the group that has held anti-government protests across the country.

Several people were killed and property worth billions destroyed during the demonstrations, which persisted despite the withdrawal of the Finance Bill by President Ruto.
