President William Ruto has vowed to apologize to one of his daughters for turning down her request to study film about eight years ago.
Ruto revealed during the visit that the daughter made the request eight years ago. He did not understand what it was all about.
It is after the visit that the president said he now understand what film all is about. It’s completely different to him now.
“I now understand about eight years ago, my daughter, and she’s around, asked me ‘you know I want to film’. I looked at her, what did you say!? I must apologize to her today. She was right and I was wrong.”
He added that the daughter reminded him as they went around the studios.
“Because today, while we were going around, she told me do you see what I told you…and it’s completely different. Now I see what you could see 8 years ago,” Ruto said.
The president and his delegation who were received at the Tyler Perry studios by American TV host, Steve Harvey discussed about the importance of enhancing Kenya’s creative and entertainment sector.
This marked a significant view for the president and the country’s approach to the arts and media.
Ruto was accompanied by several people from the Kenyan entertainment industry to the US state visit. Among them include the award-winning Kate Actress and actor & comedian Eddie Butita.
The president promised to support and invest in Kenya’s creative economy. This is after he recognized the economic power of film, as evident by Tyler Perry’s success.

In addition to that, the head of state shared that he was stirred by the institution that could help young creatives to monetize their talent.
He anticipated the huge potential for collaboration and partnership with such institutions.
“I have seen, I have experienced, and now I know better,” he said.
