In the quiet village of Kagere, Othaya, tragedy struck when 18-year-old Faith Ngina fell victim to a brutal attack by her stepfather, Kamuhia Waitiki, and her mother. Ngina, a bright student who had recently graduated from Mahiga Girls High School with a commendable grade of B, was on the brink of starting her university journey. However, her dreams were shattered when she was fatally beaten, allegedly for falling in love and having a boyfriend.

Reports suggest that Ngina, who was believed to be pregnant, had spent a night at her boyfriend Kim’s place after a supposed sleepover. She wanted to go live with her boyfriend then when her parents found out and beat her up.  In a heart-wrenching TikTok video, Kim reminisced about the cherished moments they shared together and their last moments before she died.

In another undated clip, Ngina is seen hesitating to return home, pleading with Kim to allow her to stay longer after a sleepover showing how much they loved each other .” Leo nataka kulala na wewe tena,” she says n the video but Hey boyfriend urges her to just go home and promises her that they will have another sleepover another time.

“Si ulilala na mimi jana, please wewe enda home, kesho.” Kim Her boyfriend told her.

The brutality of the attack is emphasized by the fact that Ngina was beaten with coffee sticks, resulting in severe injuries that led to her hospitalization. Despite efforts to save her, she eventually succumbed to her injuries, leaving her loved ones devastated and the community in shock.

The village chief, deeply troubled by the incident, condemned the barbaric act, emphasizing the need for justice for Ngina. The step dad has since been arrested and the mother is still being searched for. The untimely death of such a promising young woman has sparked outrage and calls for action against domestic violence.

Ngina’s story is as a stark reminder of the harsh realities faced by many young women, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and intervention to prevent such senseless acts of violence.  The community mourns the loss of Faith Ngina, may her tragic fate serve as a catalyst for change, ensuring that no other young life is cut short due to ignorance and cruelty.
