Police officers in Juja Kiambu County have arrested 4 suspected robbers who broke into a newly established liquor joint, and stole alcohol and killed a guard.
The suspected thugs, who are said to be armed with crude, weapons attacked the joint on Monday February 19 early morning. They are said to have switched off the power and disconnected the generator which was the alternative source of power.
They then tied up the security guard with a rope before killing him with a metallic “rungu”.
Police officers managed to retrieve other weapons including a jack that resembled a gun from the robbers, which they used to terrorize bartenders during the early morning incident,.
The thugs stole expensive alcohol, worth hundreds of thousands, from the joint and had planned to resale to various markets.
According to the Kiambu Police commander Michael Muchiri, police were able to gather information about the suspects’ whereabouts and set a trap for them, before arresting the four.
Their ringleader, John Maina, who is said to operate butcheries in Ruiru and Utawala, had loaded the liquor on a Toyota Noah vehicle with counterfeit number plates.
The county security boss said that another fugitive who is believed to working with the criminals is still on the run, but his team is following on the available leads.
“We have incurred a loss over one million since we had just restocked the joint before the robbers attacked” said Jeff Wachira the manager of the joint.
Such cases have been on the rise in Kiambu County. Residents have raised including the area MCA Ngatha Wambui ,who upon the security personnel to beef up security in the area. The MCA further urged business people to embrace technology to help curb such incidents.
