Tension has hit Mradi area in Embakasi over suspicions of a fresh gas leak.

On Monday, locals were captured fleeing their homes, for fear of the danger that was awaiting them.

Bramwel Simiyu, Nairobi Disaster Management Chief Officer has however assured that the situation is under control, and precautionary measures have been put to place.

“It is just precautionary we have evacuated them as we invited Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to identify whether there is a threat,” The aftermath of the Embakasi gas explosion that claimed three lives and injured over 220 others on Thursday night, February 1, 2024.

“Somebody reported that there was a fire. We have put emergency services on standby but so far there is no reason for alarm,” he told a local news outlet.

This however comes just days after a deadly gas explosion was witnessed in the area. So far 6 people have lost their lives while over 300 are still nursing injuries from the incident.

“The injured patients are receiving medical care at our Level 6 hospitals at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital and the Kenyatta National Hospital,” government spokes person said.

4 NEMA official linked to the incident have since been suspended and one is already in custody, as police pursue other suspects.

“Those who are supposed to help in this probe know themselves and are asked to surrender. We are however pursuing them,” he said.
