A Homa Bay woman has been found dead in River Awach after going missing for two days.
The deceased, who has been identified as Caroline Akoth, is said to have disappeared on Friday when she went to cultivate her land at Ogenga village in Kasewe Location.
Her family reported that she was missing only for her body was found on Sunday
Kasewe location chief Dickson Samba said the matter has been reported to the police for investigations to establish what killed the woman. The local administrator said he was called by a village elder who also got a report about the matter.
“We found the body trapped on reeds and twigs in the river waters. The matter has been reported to the police for investigations,” Samba said adding that the woman’s family confirmed that she did not show any signs of being in distress.
” Her husband reported that he realised Akoth was missing when he went to check on her in the farm.They started searching for her but found the body two days later before they alerted the authorities,” he added.
Police from Othoro station led by the sub-county commander Justus Kucha were informed before they visited the scene to retrieve the body, they took the body to Jawabu mortuary for postmortem.
“We are going to interrogate more family members as well as undertake postmortem to establish the cause of the death,” Kucha said.
The Homabay incident however comes at a time when cases of Femicide have been on the rise in the country. At least 10 cases of femicide have been reported in Kenya since January 1, according to Amnesty International Kenya, bringing the rising gender-based violence to the forefront of national headlines. The non-governmental organizations have urged citizens to report such cases.
The recent high-profile murders of Scarlet Wahu and Rita Waeni saw countrywide protests on Saturday, with protesters demanding for justice and accountability for their murders as well as other women who have lost their lives in a similar manner.
