Ann Njeri, a  businesswoman in the middle of Ksh17 billion oil Saga has been reported ‘sick and immobile’.

The businesswoman was to appear before the national assembly energy committee on Wednesday November 22, to shed more light on the oil saga but she failed to honour the invite.

Her lawyers, instead, informed the committee that Ann was sick.

“Late evening, we received a letter from Njeri’s lawyer stating that it is with deep regret we inform you that Ann Njeri will not be available as she’s sick and immobile. She will appear at a later date,” Mwala MP Vincent kawaya stated.

In the letter by Diro advocates, it was requested that she is allowed to present herself before the committee on a later date.

“It is with humble regret that our client Ms. Ann Njeri Njoroge (Ann’s Import and Exports Enterprises Limited) will not be able to make it for the invitation to meet the Departmental Committee on Energy regarding the disputed oil consignment as she is indisposed and immobile,” the letter read.

The Committee, reacting to her failing to appear before it, told Njeri’s lawyers that they might be forced to summon her if she further fails to appear in parliament.

“We owe it to Kenyans to know the truth… if I was her, I would be there. We don’t read it in good faith that she decided to disappear,” Kawaya further noted.

The Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir accused the businesswoman of forging documents since her company is not licensed to import petroleum.

On the other hand, Busia senator Okiya Omtata,  in his opinion stated that the Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u funded the businesswoman in June to import the fuel and that she is only being used as collateral.

Njeri in her defence denied the wrong-doing stating supported by her team who claim that she endured a five-day kidnap and forced to renounce her claim of the oil.
