Denis Kaggia, a Kenyan Rapper popularly known as DNA has finally come clean on a misconception concerning his hit song ‘Banjuka’ earnings during the late Mwai Kibaki’s campaigns.

He has  disclosed the actual figures he earned and the challenges he faced in an interview on CTA show.

“The Kibaki campaign was what I was looking up to because it was something that could set us up to do a lot of business. So we started doing road shows around Kenya. They paid us Ksh. 7M, but I only took home Ksh 2.5 million.” he noted

He further continued to say that his life took a chaotic turn after false reports that he was paid Ksh. 30 million.

“But then the blogs said that I was paid Ksh. 30 million. My life became chaos. Imagine people thinking you have Ksh 30 M in your pocket, it was insanity,” he revealed.

He further clarified that from the 7 million allocated, he had to pay other people and that some money was deducted to pay the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

“I  was making way less than 50% because inside that Ksh. 7M, there is a broker, a little bit for KRA, and then there’s us. 30% of that money went to a broker,” the rapper clarified.

Noting all these challenges, he has however not failed to mention the positive part of the deal. The rapper noted the connections and chances that were open for him after the deal.

“I met people I would have never met if it were not for this deal, so sometimes you accept being taken advantage of. And then they took a while to pay. So we started doing shows which they also paid like 50k, 100k shillings. This too was not mine I had to split it with the label. But there were many,” DNA noted.
