In a recent social media moment, Mike Sonko, a well-known figure,  took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the state of modern marriages, especially in response to a viral video linked to Raymond Ndunga.

The former Nairobi governor  pointed out that domestic violence has room in the modern society.

“Men at times some of us huwa na umbwakni sana kwani hamjui siku hizi mabibi hawapigwi,” he shared and proceeded to highlight the importance of choosing one’s life partner wisely and promoting harmony within marriages.

Sonko began by addressing the increasing number of cases where husbands and wives are experiencing conflicts over minor issues.

He emphasized the need for individuals, particularly young men and women planning to enter into marriage, to be mindful of their choice of spouse.

“Ndoa nikuvumiliana, hizi domestic issues hazitakangi hasira na mdomo” – Marriage is about tolerance, and these domestic issues should not be escalated through anger and argument.

He shared a personal anecdote, expressing gratitude to his wife, Primrose Mbuvi, for her unwavering support and understanding during both challenging and joyful times.

The flamboyant  politician believes that the key to the survival of any marriage or relationship lies in the mutual respect and support between partners. He emphasized the importance of a balanced partnership, where both spouses lift each other up rather than compete or belittle one another.

“When your wife ako juu wewe kuwa chini and vice versa, mukiishi hivyo ndoa yenu italast for so many years,” he said

Mike Sonko’s heartfelt advice has resonated with many on social media, sparking a discussion on the importance of nurturing healthy and enduring relationships. His words serve as a reminder that love, understanding, and mutual respect are the cornerstones of a successful and lasting marriage. In an era marked by changing dynamics, Sonko’s wisdom offers a timeless guide for couples seeking happiness and harmony in their unions.
