The Registrar of Societies, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, has intensified efforts to enforce compliance with registration requirements for churches across the country. The decision to deregister the six churches, which also includes five other churches Helicopter of Crist Church,Theophilus Church, Kings Outreach Church and Goodnews International Ministries, is part of a broader initiative to ensure that religious institutions adhere to established regulations.

Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s NewLife Prayer Centre, known for its significant following and dynamic services, has been operating without proper registration according to the authorities. The church’s deregistration serves as a reminder that even well-established religious organizations must meet legal requirements to operate within the country.

The crackdown aims to address concerns about financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and potential for fraudulent activities within unregistered churches. The move is not meant to stifle religious freedom but rather to safeguard the interests of both the congregants and the broader society.

The government’s actions have sparked mixed reactions within the religious community and the public at large. While some view the crackdown as a necessary step to ensure accountability, others express concerns about potential interference in religious matters.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 12 (1) of the societies cancels the registration of the societies specified in the first column of the schedule, with effect from the respective dates specified in the third column of the schedule, “Registrar of Societies Maria Nyariki said.

Religious leaders and congregations are urged to review their registration status and comply with regulatory guidelines to avoid facing similar consequences. The government’s stance on promoting transparency and accountability underscores the importance of adhering to legal frameworks to prevent undue hardships on religious communities.

As the deregistration of Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s NewLife Prayer Centre and other churches continues to reverberate, it prompts discussions about the role of religious institutions in society and the necessity for robust oversight mechanisms. The government’s efforts highlight its commitment to promoting responsible practices within the religious sector and maintaining the integrity of these institutions.
